“What?” She said, running her hands along the sides of his face. Her eyes stung as tears ran down her face. The initial numbness of shock had faded and she was left with emotions brimming around the edges of her being. She took a shaky breath. “I thought…I thought I had lost you..” she let out a small sob, her voice cracking “I’m just so happy you’re here.”
His breathing was still rapid and wheezy, his hearts struggling to find the right rhythm. He held tightly to Marie, breathing in her scent. He’d almost left her and knowing that was far worse than his near death. “Everything is all right.” He kissed at the top of her head.
